In 2023, the total number of passengers entering and leaving Tibet via the Qinghai-Tibet Railway reached 2.959 million, with 1.533 million inbound passengers and 1.426 million outbound passengers, marking a historic high since the opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

In 2023, CR-Qingzang conducted a scientific analysis of the passenger flow patterns and dynamically optimized the daily, weekend, holiday, and peak demand train schedules for passenger trains to and from Tibet. They also reinforced and equipped oxygen-supplying train cars to meet the diverse travel needs of passengers entering and leaving Tibet. By utilizing both Fuxing plateau EMU trains and normal-speed trains, they improved the distribution of transportation capacity between Lhasa, Nyingchi, and Shigatse and cultivated a stable passenger base.

Sound infrastructure was identified as a key factor in enhancing transportation capacity. In 2023, CR-Qingzang accelerated construction projects, including the replacement of switches and the renovation of the signaling system in the Golmud-Lhasa section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and the quality improvement project in the Xining- Golmud section. They reinforced basic equipment and facilities to meet the growing demand for passenger traffic. In addition, in efforts to build the “intelligent railway”, they pioneered unmanned station management methods, integrating remote intelligent monitoring and automated operating systems, such as video surveillance, natural disaster monitoring, and snowmelt control, to ensure the safety of train operations in permafrost areas.

CR-Qingzang continuously optimized passenger services by creating station and train brands centered around the theme “Heavenly Road Gesang Flower.” They developed a comprehensive service chain covering consultation guidance, station waiting, multilingual services, lost item searches, and more. They enhanced fundamental station infrastructure, such as heating, lighting, deodorization, cleaning, and water supply. Various amenities like guidance signs, electronic screens, small medicine boxes, service boxes, power banks, and oxygen cylinders were provided at major stations and on trains to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.

Capitalizing on the unique tourism resources of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, CR-Qingzang collaborated with travel agencies to design railway tourism products. Efforts were made to transform tourism flow into increased passenger volume, achieving both economic and social benefits. In 2023, they organized the operation of two “Beautiful Nyingchi” tourist special trains, four “Tour Tibet” tourist special trains, and a customized premium tourist train named “Snowland Pride” for visitors from Hong Kong and Macao. They actively promoted various business services like count-based tickets, group tickets, and study tours to attract more travelers to explore the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
